Both Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl undergo tests to find out severity of injuries
No one wanted this update in Edmonton. Get the full details below:
The Edmonton Oilers played last night’s game against the Winnipeg Jets without Leon Draisaitl, who was out with an undisclosed injury, and ended up playing sans Connor McDavid for the third period after he left the contest with a suspected lower-body injury.
While head coach Kris Knoblauch had little to say about the status of his star players on Thursday night, on Friday, it was reported by insider Frank Seravalli that “the Oilers have imaging scheduled today for Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl to better understand the severity of injuries and timelines to return to play.”
McDavid appeared in discomfort during the second period after a questionable play from Jets defenseman, and former Team Canada teammate, Josh Morrissey. He did not return to the third period, and Edmonton went on to lose 4-3 in overtime.
As for Draisaitl, he was doubtful for the contest as he reportedly sustained an undisclosed injury in Edmonton’s 7-1 win over Utah on Tuesday and is considered “game-to-game.”
LATEST UPDATE
Later on Friday, the Oilers confirmed that both Draisaitl and McDavid will not play this weekend. Neither will play tomorrow vs Seattle. Both are expected to miss at least a week.
