Blackhawks make two big signings today

Earlier today the Chicago Blackhawks announced that they have signed pending free agent forward Jason Dickinson to a two year contract extension.

The 28 year old Dickinson has posted a career-high 14 goals in 43 games with the Blackhawks this season.

“Jason adds a unique two-way game to our lineup and his compete level is consistently strong every night,” said Blackhawks General Manager Kyle Davidson in a prepared statement. “He’s showing his offensive game this year, which has been a huge lift to our team. His leadership has been instrumental, and the impact has been evident around the room, particularly with our young guys. We’re excited to bring him back and to see him continue to grow with our team.”

“It’s nice to be somewhere you’re wanted,” Dickinson said in his press availability earlier today. “I’m appreciative of Kyle and his team and my agent for getting something done, because it’s a place I want to be.” 

“They've shown a commitment to me,” Dickinson said. “So, it's only right that I feel that same commitment back and give them everything to help bring this team forward because they've invested the two years in me. So now it's my job to help raise the level of and keep giving back what I can to make it worthwhile.”

Of course, the Blackhawks also signed veteran forward Nick Foligno to a contract extension last week, and together these two signings show the team's commitment to surrounding their young players with veteran talent through their rebuild.

There are rumblings that the team has also come to terms with veteran goaltender Petr Mrazek, as well. ESPN insider Kevin Weekes reports that both Mrazek and the Blackhawks have an agreement in principle and that fans should expect an announcement on his contract extension any day now. The 31 year old goaltender is in the final year of a contract that pays him $3.8 million annually. He was acquired by the team in a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs back in the 2022 NHL offseason.
