Big update on injured Penguin Filip Hallander.
Hallander involved in a very scary incident last night.
Pittsburgh Penguins centerman Filip Hallander was involved in a very scary looking incident on Friday night during an American Hockey League game contested between the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins and the Charlotte Checkers.
The incident in question would come with just over a minute left on the game clock when Hallander was engaged in a battle for the puck along the boards. It's hard to tell with the one video angle that we have of the incident, but it appears as though Hallander may have been the victim of a slew-foot, although it is impossible to say so conclusively given that our view is obscured by players and an official.
Slew-foot or no, the end result would be Hallander crashing hard to the ice with his head and neck taking the brunt of the impact. Eventually a stretcher would come out onto the ice and Hallander would be loaded onto that stretcher before being transported to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries.
Thankfully we now have our first real update on Hallander and although the details are still a bit unclear this is definitely some good news. In an official statement, the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins have confirmed that Hallander has been released from hospital and is back home resting, which is hopefully a sign that his injuries aren't too severe.
Here is the official statement from the Penguins:
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins forward Filip Hällander was injured late in last night's game and was transported to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.
After testing and examination, Hallander was released from the hospital last night and is at home resting.
No further information on the injury will be released at this time.
Sounds like we're going to have to wait for more details, but here's to hoping that Hallander makes a full and speedy recovery and can return to the ice sooner rather than later.
