The Ottawa Senators will have to play on without their captain on the ice after the grueling best on best tournament that has interrupted this current National Hockey League regular season.

According to a report from National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman, Senators captain Brady Tkachuk has been injured and as a result he will miss Saturday night's game against the Montreal Canadiens.

Tkachuk is of course coming off of an outstanding performance for Team USA at the Four Nations Face-Off, one in which he utilized a hard and heavy brand of physical play to impose his will on the opposition. Unfortunately that style of play also takes a toll on the body, and it seems that Tkachuk's effort at the Four Nations Face-Off will cost him important time with his team battling for a playoff spot.

According to Friedman this is more of a day to day type of injury than anything long term, so if you're hoping for a silver lining here that may be it.

This news will of course be incredibly disappointing to fans of the Montreal Canadiens as well as many who were expecting to see fireworks this evening between the Canadiens and Senators. Earlier in the week, Canadiens enforcer Arber Xhekaj sent a clear warning to Brady Tkachuk but unfortunately it seems Xhekaj will have to wait for his chance to attack Tkachuk head on as he had claimed he would be doing tonight.
