Auston Matthews ties a 30 year old Maple Leafs record on Saturday night!
The Toronto Maple Leafs fail to secure a win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night, but it wasn't due to a lack of effort from number 34.
The Toronto Maple Leafs failed to secure a win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night, eventually losing by a score of 5-3, but it wasn't due to a lack of effort from number 34.
In the losing effort Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews would manage to tie an impressive single-game franchise record for shots on goal by recording a whopping 15 shots on goal throughout the 3 periods of play. To think, if the Maple Leafs had managed to force overtime in this one, Matthews very likely would have claimed the record as his very own.
Matthews now joins NHL legend Dave Andreychuk, who set the record almost exactly 30 years ago when he recorded 15 shots against the Winnipeg Jets on March 23rd of 1993.
