Auston Matthews mocks reporter over ridiculous question.

Toronto Maple Leafs captain was not pleased with an absurd question he received on Monday.

Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews wasn't the least bit pleased with this question on Monday.

Matthews is coming fresh off of a heartbreaking loss in the final of the Four Nations Face-Off, one in which he personally had numerous chances to end the game in overtime and one in which he was on the ice for the eventual game winning goal from Canadian superstar Connor McDavid.

As you might expect given the context, the Four Nations Face-Off is probably already a pretty sensitive topic for Matthews and the rest of his American teammates at this time, which is why the question he was asked on Monday seemed to leave him less than happy.

During a media scrum, Matthews was asked in rather blunt fashion if he would be haunted by the final moments of the Four Nations Face-Off final. I've included the transcription of the reporter's question here for full context.

Reporter: You came so close to deflecting that pass.. does that haunt you in any way?

"Sure Kevin," said Matthews immediately looking away from the reporter with disdain written all over his face.

Both the look on the face of the Maple Leafs captain and the response he gave to the question made it clear he was not amused, you can see the moment in question in the short clip below:

Despite the rather awkward nature of the question, when pressed on the issue Matthews would give a much more thoughtful response.

"I think that's part of life you know?" said Matthews. "It's not always gonna work out in your favor... it sucks but there's nothing that I can do to fix that now and it's about just trying to get better."
