Auston Matthews calls out Matthew Knies for lying about him.

Auston Matthews sets the record straight and says teammate Matthew Knies has been telling tall tales.

The captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs has set the record straight... for now at least.

Following an on-ice workout from the Maple Leafs on Friday, Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies spoke to the media about some of the training he did over the course of the summer. One of the questions that came up was about Knies playing tennis against the team's captain, Auston Matthews, over the summer with Knies boasting confidently that he had gotten the better of his teammate.

"I smoked him," said Knies of dueling Matthews on the tennis court.

That was all well and good and made for a pretty funny quote, but Matthews himself has quickly pumped the breaks on Knies' stories of triumph over the Maple Leafs' captain.

Matthews also spoke to reporters following the on-ice workout and when he got to the media scrum he quickly called out his teammate for lying about him. Matthews not only suggested that Knies had been dishonest with the media, but also made it sound like Knies had pulled something of a prank on him while doing so.

"He's never beaten me in Tennis, never," said Matthews. "He literally walked into the gym and told me that he said that. I said 'I can't believe you would lie to the media like that, that's crazy'"

Matthews' comments elicited more than a few laughs from the reporters in attendance and it is also nice to see both Knies and Matthews having some fun with one another and showing a little off-ice chemistry this early in the National Hockey League's preseason.

Something tells me we haven't heard the last of this,
