Auston Matthews and Connor McDavid trade penalties.

The two superstars collide.

The Edmonton Oilers and the Toronto Maple Leafs put on quite the spectacle on Saturday night when they went back in forth in what proved to be a high scoring and exciting contest.

The game very much had a playoff-like atmosphere to it and we saw that with some of the more physical aspects of the game including a number of clashes between players, with perhaps Evander Kane and Michael Bunting being the most heated on either side of the ice, and we even saw some superstar level players get involved in a bit of that physicality.

Although you typically see both Auston Matthews and Connor McDavid shy away from the more violent aspects of the game under normal circumstances, and for good reason, the two managed to collide briefly during this contest and even exchanged a pair of penalties at center ice.

It would be Matthews who would draw the ire of McDavid when he sent him tumbling to the ice with a hip check near the blue line. That was enough to send McDavid sailing over Matthews and down to the ice, but the Oilers captain would quickly bounce back up and retaliate. He started by giving his Leafs counterpart a shove when he rose to his feet, but feeling that wasn't enough he also proceeded to knock Matthews' stick out of his hands as well.

The officials on the ice had seen enough at this point, and sent both superstars to the box for a chance to cool down.
