Scrappy forward Tyler Bertuzzi came through in the clutch for the Boston Bruins in his first ever Stanley Cup Playoffs action, scoring five goals with five assists with his new club in what would ultimately be a shocking four games to three series loss against the Florida Panthers, the eventual Eastern Conference champions.
Bertuzzi, who was traded from the Detroit Red Wings to the Bruins at the NHL Trade Deadline this past March, is now set to become an unrestricted free agent. And despite reports that Boston is looking to do what is necessary to keep him in Beantown, he may price himself out of their budget with his reported asking price.
Bertuzzi is allegedly seeking a multi-year deal with an AAV of at least $7 million a season. And based on a report from analyst Andy Strickland, it's the Panthers who have emerged with significant interest:
Florida suffered significant injury troubles in the playoffs, with several players suffering various ailments - the most significant of which were Matthew Tkachuk's broken sternum and Aaron Ekblad's broken foot, two shoulder dislocations and oblique tear.
Bertuzzi would help offset some of the players that the Panthers said may not be ready for the start of next season thanks to their injuries suffered in the postseason.
Originally drafted in the 2nd round of the 2013 NHL Draft by the Red Wings (58th overall), Bertuzzi has scored 92 goals with 126 assists in 326 career NHL games.
