Ottawa Senators Artem Zub was having a great game on Wednesday night against the visiting Washington Capitals when it ended abruptly in the third period.
As Zub attempted to defend the Caps’ attack, he skated in front of captain Alex Ovechkin in hopes to block his shot, however, it ended up deflecting on the blue liner’s head. Zub stayed down for quite some time as Ovi’s shot caught him at some speed directely on his left ear.
Zub needed help off the ice while blood came from his head and ear.
Ovechkin stuck around with some good sportsmanship and well wishes for Zub as he helped him to get to his feet.
We don’t expect the Russian defenseman to return for the remainder of the game, in which he had recorded a goal.
Best wishes, Zub.
