Arber Xhekaj drops the gloves during Habs skills competition.
Montreal Canadiens enforcer Arber Xhekaj lived up to his reputation during the skills competition on Sunday.
Fans across the sporting world have shown over the course of the last several years that the All-Star Game and Skills Competition formats that so many sports league's employ have grown a little stale. Fans have moaned and groaned about the events with the number of complaints appearing to grow year by year, and as a result the players involved in these events have had to find ways to spice things up a little bit.
On Sunday, the Montreal Canadiens hosted their own skills competition and this time around it would be Montreal Canadiens enforcer Arber Xhekaj who would steal the show. Xhekaj would live up to his reputation as a very tough customer and a no-nonsense type of NHL enforcer when, instead of firing off some kind of fancy shot or using a flashy dangle during the skills competition, he instead stuck to what he did best.
He dropped the gloves.
In a moment that would bring a roar of both appreciation and laughter from the crowd, Xhekaj would throw his gloves to the ice and pretend to attack the goaltender before firing the puck off into the net for a rather creative way to score during a shootout contest.
It made for a rather amusing moment and you can tell that the fans in attendance were loving every moment of it.
Unfortunately for both Xhekaj and the Canadiens I don't think the National Hockey League will let him get away with something like this during the course of a normal shootout.
