Team USA has had two overturned goals in their semifinal matchup against Canada at the World Junior Championship on Wednesday night.
In the third period, Rutger McGroarty thought he had cut the Canadian lead to one goal for the Americans, however, the goal was overturned for goaltender interference.
On the play, you can see that there was, amongst many things coming at Canada's goalie Thomas Milic, including a flying airborne stick.
That was the second time of the game an American goal was disallowed, seeing that during the second period Jackson Blake celebrated a tying goal, however, Canada’s goalie interference challenge overturned the tally.
While most folks on social media will say that the first overturned goal, put it by Blake, should have counted, they don't seem to find as much controversy with the one refused to McGroarty. It's almost like they said 'if you're going to disallow the first one, this one won't count either.'
As veteran insider Bob McKenzie explained during the game's second intermission on TSN, the IIHF standard is a little tighter than the NHL especially where the blue paint is concerned.
But we accept all opinions in this great matchup.
Late in the third period, Joshua Roy striped Luke Hughes of the puck and potted it in the empty net. Canada won the game 6-2 to move on to face Czech Republic in the final game of the tournament.
