Another Maple Leafs’ top forward lands on injured reserve as infirmary is swamped!
THIS JUST IN. From bad to worse in Toronto:
The Toronto Maple Leafs were already down three forwards with captain Auston Matthews, Max Pacioretty and Calle Jarnkrok sidelined with injuries when the team announced on Tuesday that center David Kampf was too out of action due to a lower-body injury.
It unfortunately did not stop there as the Maple Leafs just announced on Wednesday morning that forward Max Domi has been placed on injured reserve. The Leafs therefore recalled Nikita Grebenkin from the AHL’s Marlies, a day after calling up Fraser Minten to take Kampf’s spot up front.
Domi, now on injured reserve retroactive to Nov. 16 on Wednesday, is said to be dealing with a lower-body injury. He hasn’t registered a point in 13 straight games with the Maple Leafs and had missed the team’s last three practices.
Fans felt something was off.
“Max is fighting through a lot right now. He’s banged up. I’m not overly concerned,” Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube said on Tuesday.
I guess he should have been more concerned…
The Maple Leafs are in action later tonight as they host the Vegas Golden Knights, who are also banged up.
Toronto is also without forward Ryan Reaves, who was suspended five games on Sunday by the NHL’s Department of Player Safety a day after Reaves’ collision with Edmonton Oilers’ Darnell Nurse left the blue liner bloodied and out of action for the remainder of Saturday’s contest. This is Reaves’ fourth suspension of his career, with the most recent coming in 2021, and he will forfeit $35,156.25 in salary as a result of the suspension.
