This just in, the Toronto Maple Leafs have hired former Vancouver Canucks and Pittsburgh Penguins assistant GM Derek Clancey.

Clancey and Leafs GM Brad Treliving have a long history together, having played as teammates in the ECHL. In fact, Clancey himself is an ECHL Hall of Famer.

He spent 14 years with the Penguins in various roles, most notably as director of pro scouting. He won three Stanley Cups with the organization and had been with the Canucks since 2021.

“We would like to thank Derek Clancey for the work he has done for the Vancouver Canucks," GM Patrik Allvin said in a statement. "We wish him nothing but the best as he starts a new chapter is his hockey career. “

In other Leafs news, former forward Denis Malgin has signed a long-term, five year deal with ZSC Lions in the Swiss National League (NL) in his hometown of Zurich.

The 26 year old forward put up 11 goals and 17 points in 42 games with the Colorado Avalanche last season, following a couple lacklustre seasons with the Leafs. Like I said, he's a Zurich native and helped the team to three championships early on in his career.

"Denis has proven that he is one of the best strikers in the National League. He will help us in goal production and, as a right-hand shooter, make our offensive more unpredictable," says sports director Sven Leuenberger about the returnee.
