Another Flames star demands a trade out of Calgary.
It's an unfortunate case of deja vu for fans of the Calgary Flames as yet another player has demanded a trade.
It's a bad case of deja vu for fans of the Calgary Flames.
For one reason or another the Flames have struggled to retain some of their top forwards over the course of the past few years, with star forward Johnny Gaudreau notably walking away in free agency and fellow star forward Matthew Tkachuk working his way out of Calgary after demanding a trade.
It would seem that this trend will continue this summer with a new report revealing that yet another Flames forward has asked for a fresh start somewhere else.
From The Athletic:
Toffoli, a league source confirmed, has asked for a trade now, though.
Not only does it sound like Toffoli wants out of Calgary, it sounds like he may want out of Calgary as quickly as possible. It is believed that Toffoli does not want to languish on the Flames roster all season only to be traded at the trade deadline, which means we could see something move here sooner rather than later.
There should be plenty of demand for Toffoli's services given his performance last season. Toffoli had a terrific season for the Flames recording 34 goals and adding 39 assists for a total of 73 points in 82 games, and he did so at a cap hit of just $4.25 million. Toffoli has one year remaining on his current deal and that combined with his very reasonable cap hit relative to his level of production should result in a decent return for the Flames.
