Alex Galchenyuk’s third tour of duty in Arizona came to an abrupt end on Thursday when the Coyotes placed the forward on unconditional waivers to terminate his contract just 12 days after signing him to a one-year, two-way NHL deal.

Hours after the Coyotes’ waiver move, The Athletic’s Katie Strang revealed that Galchenyuk was arrested by the Scottsdale Police Department on June 9 for private property hit and run, disorderly conduct, failure to obey, resisting arrest, and threatening or intimidating.

Galchenyuk was booked into jail on Sunday then arraigned and released the next day on his own recognizance. His pre-trial conference has been set for Aug. 11.

Amidst the news that Galchenyuk was let go because of these serious off-ice incident, PHNX Sports’ Craig Morgan was told that NHLPA “is reviewing this matter.”

There is will be to come on what is next for Galchenyuk, if he can make a case to stick with the Coyotes or return on the free-agent market. However, it seems pretty obvious that he needs help before he can return to play professionally.

Honestly, Galchenyuk has failed expectations since he was drafted third overall by the Montreal Canadiens in 2012. Since, he’s put up 354 points in 654 NHL games as a journeyman, playing with the Habs, Coyotes, Pittsburgh Penguins, Minnesota Wild, Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs and Avalanche.

Galchenyuk needs to get help, grow up and then maybe think about hockey.
