A look at the modern era of hatred between the Habs and Bruins.

It is unquestionably one of the greatest historical rivalries in the history of the National Hockey League, the long standing rivalry between original six franchises the Boston Bruins and the Montreal Canadiens. Fans of every generation in both cities are well aware of the history of hatred between these two squads and what is perhaps most interesting about it all is that it persists through different iterations of the Bruins roster and through different iterations of the Canadiens roster.

Although I think it is safe to say that the rivalry has died down somewhat in recent years due in large part to the fact that the Canadiens have simply not been a very competitive team as of late, in fact you could even argue that the recent rivalry between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Bruins has taken over in intensity after those two teams had multiple clashes in the playoffs, it was not so long ago that we saw the hatred between the Bruins and Habs rekindled and perhaps taken to its highest peak of all time. 

In a recent video published by SB Nation we get to take a look back at that historic rivalry, one that featured a familiar cast of characters on both sides of the ice. The Bruins boasted players like Zdeno Chara, Brad Marchand and Milan Lucic while the Habs had some stars of their own with players like Carey Price, Max Pacioretty and the infamous P.K. Subban leading the charge. Those are some very big names even today in the National Hockey League and with the level of egos involved here it comes as no surprise that given the frequent matchups between these two teams that it was a powder keg waiting to blow. 

It will come as no surprise to fans who followed this rivalry a few short years ago that it was players like Brad Marchand and P.K. Subban who were often at the center of controversy and who often ignited that aforementioned powder keg, but you might be a little bit more surprised to learn that it was eventual Habs captain Max Pacioretty and Habs captain Zdeno Chara that were at the center of arguably the biggest moment in this modern era of the rivalry. The video is a bit of a long one but it is worth every second of your viewing attention, and if you're stuck inside like many of us are this is a great way to pass the time and get your hockey fix in the process.
