Several teams active on waivers Sunday.

The National Hockey League's trade deadline is now less than 24 hours away and perhaps unsurprisingly this has resulted in a big day on the waiver wire in the NHL.

In total 8 players were placed on waivers on Sunday from 6 different teams, and some of the names on this list could potentially be players that some teams in the NHL will consider adding to their roster.

The busiest team on the day was the Toronto Maple Leafs who sent 3 of their players to the waiver wire. The biggest surprise among them was goaltender Petr Mrazek, an indication that the Leafs are giving serious consideration to burying his cap hit in the American Hockey League after he has had a relatively poor season for them during the 2021 - 2022 campaign.

The Leafs also sent veteran forward Kyle Clifford to waivers today. Clifford has only appeared in 13 games all season for the Leafs, recording no goals and 2 assists for a total of 2 points on the season. He has 9 penalty minutes to his name and a plus minus rating of -4. As is the case with Mrazek the Leafs are likely to bury Clifford's cap hit in the American Hockey League if he is not claimed.

Last and certainly not least the Leafs were forced to waive goaltender Harri Sateri after signing him to a new deal this season. Sateri had a very good season in the KHL this year, appearing in 38 games and recording a 2.02 goals against average and and .933 save percentage.

Here is a quick summary of the other players waived today:

Arizona Coyotes:

Riley Nash

Calgary Flames:

Brad Richardson

Edmonton Oilers:

Kyle Turris

New Jersey Devils:

Christian Jaros

Las Vegas Golden Knights:

Derrick Pouliot

It seems very likely that in the event that any players waived today clear waivers they will be demoted down to the American Hockey League where their cap hits will be reduced. These all appear to be cap saving measures as the National Hockey League trade deadline on Monday rapidly approaches.
