6 players placed on waivers Saturday.
A number of NHL teams active on Saturday.
We are drawing closer and closer to the start of the National Hockey League regular season, and that means that teams will be forced to make some tough decisions as they make their final preparations for when the games truly begin to matter.
This means that we are likely to see a number of players hit the waiver wire in the coming days as teams look to make space against the salary cap, or in some cases simply seek to send players down to the American Hockey League that must be cleared through waivers before doing so. Saturday has proven to be no exception with at least 6 NHL players being placed on waivers today, each of those 6 from a different team around there league.
Here they are in no particular order:
Seth Griffith. (EDM)
The 29 year old Oilers centerman played in just 1 NHL game for the Edmonton Oilers last season and it seems like he's heading back to the Bakersfield Condors of the AHL with whom he played 64 games last season, scoring 30 goals and adding 50 assists for 80 points.
Nate Schnarr. (MTL)
The 23 year old former 3rd round pick (75th overall) of the Arizona Coyotes has no NHL experience as of yet and it appears as though the Canadiens are sending him back to AHL to play with the Laval Rocket, a team with whom he played 20 games last season.
Louis Domingue. (NYR)
The veteran backup goaltender spent all of last season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, appearing in 22 games and recording a 2.41 goals against average and a .924 save percentage. The New York Rangers are presumably seeking to send him down to the Hartford Wolfpack.
Michael Hutchinson. (VGK)
We have another goaltender in Michael Hutchinson, one coming off of a shaky season with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Hutchinson did not fare will in 2 games at the NHL last season and was only moderately better at the AHL level with a 3.23 goals against average and a .899 save percentage over 28 games with the Toronto Marlies. Given their goaltending woes I suspect the Las Vegas Golden Knights would prefer that Hutchinson remains unclaimed.
Sean Day. (TB)
24 year old Tampa Bay Lightning forward Sean Day is headed to waivers, likely with another season as a member of the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL in his future. He had 8 goals and 32 assists for 40 points in 69 games with the Crunch last season and also went scoreless in the 2 NHL games he was featured in.
Ashton Sautner. (WPG)
The Winnipeg Jets are sending the undrafted 28 year old defenseman to waivers and with just 23 total games of NHL experience under his belt it seems likely that he is destined to clear.
