This was a true David vs Goliath moment in the Western Hockey League last night.
During a game that was contested between the Medicine Hat Tigers and the Winnipeg Ice we would see 5'9 Oasiz Wiesblatt of the Tigers take on a much bigger man in the form of 6'4 Ashton Crumbly of the ice.
It looked like this should have been a total mismatch given the sheer size of the two individuals involved in this exchange, but to the surprise of many Wiesblatt did an excellent job of handling himself in a very difficult situation. Among those surprised may have been Crumbly himself because it would be Wiesblatt who would land the most significant shots in the early moments of the fight.
Crumbly would eventually start using his larger size and firing back with some shots of his own, but again it seemed that the size discrepancy would favor Wiesblatt. Crumbly appeared to have a hard time connecting with any solid shots as he had to punch down to reach his opponent and that allowed Wiesblatt to come out of the exchange having taken relatively little damage.
While I always try to tip my hat to both combatants for putting on a great show for the fans, I feel like Wiesblatt deserves an extra nod here for taking on the much bigger man and showing no fear in the process.
