Andrew Shaw might have been forced to hang up the skates at 29 back in 2021 because of several concussions, he is still very much into the game. And he hasn’t changed his ways. The former pest still enjoys getting under the skins of players and has recently attacked Edmonton Oilers goalie Mike Smith on social media.
The two men never seemed to like one another. Back in 2012 when Shaw was on his first stint with the Chicago Blackhawks and Smith played for the Coyotes, the Hawks’ gritty forward never avoided the goalie and ran into him behind his own net, creating chaos on the ice. It feels like the feud started there…
Now fast-forward to May 2022 in the postseason as the Oilers made it to the Western conference final. Shaw sent out tweets on Mike Smith, even calling out that the netminder will be the reason why Edmonton loses the series against the Colorado Avalanche.
Artturi Lehkonen scored the series-clinching goal in overtime as the Avalanche swept the Oilers with a 6-5 victory on Monday night, propelling Colorado to the Stanley Cup for the first time since 2001.
Shaw didn’t want to stop making fun of Smith, stating how sad it is not to be able to mock him anymore. He also congratulated Lehkonen for his game-winning, series-clinching goal.
I wanna say these tweets had to hurt Smith just as much as that body check did back in 2012…
Shaw is entertaining on social media and let’s hope for Smith he turned out all notifications since the start - and the end - of his postseason.
