Game 2 is intense and blood was shed.
Things escalated quickly in Game 2 between the Montreal Canadiens and Buffalo Sabres on Friday night.
With Buffalo trailing in the second period, the physical intensity ramped up in a major way and it resulted in one of the wildest sequences of the series so far.
Jordan Greenway caught Ivan Demidov with his head down and delivered a huge hit that sent the Canadiens rookie flying backward. During the collision, Demidov’s skates came crashing down onto the arm and hand of Beck Malenstyn, who had lost his glove on impact.
The aftermath was ugly.
Demidov slowly made his way back to the Montreal bench before briefly heading to the dressing room, while Malenstyn stayed on the ice clearly in discomfort. The Sabres forward appeared to know immediately something was wrong, holding his hand behind his back before finally noticing the amount of blood pouring from it. The image was caught live on the broadcast.
He quickly rushed to the Buffalo bench for repairs as trainers stepped in.

Despite the violent sequence, Demidov eventually returned to the game, showing toughness after the heavy contact. Still, both players are likely going to leave this one bruised, battered, and carrying reminders of just how physical this series is becoming.
