This could be it for him in Toronto.

There's no getting around it - Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander is one of the better goal scorers in the National Hockey League, and it's understandable that he wants to be compensated like one.

Having reached 40 goals last season for the first time in his career, Nylander was the leading goal scorer for the Leafs and second overall in points. And his contract happens to be expiring next summer, and by all indications, he and new Toronto general manager Brad Treliving are not any closer to a new deal.

In fact, they're said to be multiple millions of dollars apart; Nylander is said to want at least $10 million a season, while the Leafs are apparently unwilling to go anywhere over $8 million a year. And for fans who are hoping to see Nylander swallow a little bit of pride and take a discount for the overall betterment of the team, it sounds like they'll have to keep waiting.

According to Friedman, Nylander won't be taking a discount until he sees other high profile players do the same.

Do you believe that Nylander is acting selfishly with this revelation, or should he be applauded for trying to get the maximum value for his play while he's still in his prime?
