William Nylander gives ultimatum to Leafs
He's a pending free agent after this season.
HockeyFeed
There's no getting around it - Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander is one of the more gifted goal scorers in the National Hockey League today, and it isn't unreasonable that he wants to be compensated like one.
Nylander had a breakout season, reaching 40 goals for the first time in his career, making him the leading goal scorer for the Leafs and second overall in points. However, his contract is set to expire next summer, and it appears that he and the new Toronto general manager Brad Treliving have not made significant progress towards a new deal, despite Auston Matthews agreeing to a new four-year extension.
According to The Athletic, Nylander has given his agent instructions to continue negotiating with the Leafs during the regular season, but not to approach him on those negotiations until they're all but wrapped up.
Will Nylander's agent be able to get something worked out with Brad Treliving before next summer?
In 521 career games, all played with the Leafs, Nylander has scored 177 goals with 253 assists while also adding 17 goals and 23 assists in 50 career postseason games.
