Which NHL fan base drinks the most?

How much does each fan base like to drink?

For some of us there's nothing that goes better with a sporting event than a nice, cold, alcoholic beverage and that certainly appears to be the case for fans in the National Hockey League. If you've ever witnessed a Stanley Cup parade anywhere in North America then you know that hockey fans love to drink but that does lead one to wonder, which hockey fans tend to drink the most and which NHL fanbase is the most willing to hand out their hard earned cash for the suds?

In April of 2022 the people at Time 2 Play set out to find the answer and they did so by surveying a whopping 1,584 hockey fans, all over the age of 21 of course, from across both the United States and Canada. Those surveyed were asked how many alcoholic drinks they tend to typically consume while watching a hockey game and they were also asked about the costs associated with those drinks. The average age of those who answered the survey was just under 35 years of age, so with all that out of the way here are the results:

I'd like to say it was a tight race but this survey suggests we may have a clear winner. Taking the top spot in both categories were the fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Not only did the respondents for the Leafs admit to drinking the most, an average of 3.9 drinks per game, but they also admitted to spending the most on alcohol with a whopping $58.50 on average spent on alcohol.

The Blackhawks fan base came in a close second when it came to their number of drinks per game at an average of 3.8 drinks per game, but their alcohol spend was nowhere near the Leafs at just $36.10 per game.

The Penguins were the closest fan base when it came to their average alcohol budget at $52.50, a full $6.00 behind the Leafs, but they lagged slightly behind in terms of average number of drinks per game with 3.5.

It could very well be that the discrepancy in value between the Canadian Dollar and American Dollar played a factor here, the survey did not mention if they adjusted for the exchange rate.
