After getting introduced as the new member of the Edmonton Oilers, Evander Kane continued his conversation with The Shift’s Kayla Grey where no topic was off limits, which was released on Friday afternoon.
Right off the bat, Kane was asked about his contract termination by the San Jose Sharks and he maintains that he was blindsided by the move.
However, he quickly explains how many teams were interested in acquiring his services.
“Things then happened very quickly. Well over half of the league had reached out to my agent within the first 48 hours and it was a new experience for me, talking to so many different teams, but I’d say it’s been a very good experience.”
Though Grey asked him to identify the interested teams, Kane did not name one. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman revealed a bit more that same day on the 32 Thoughts podcast, talking other teams that were interested in Evander Kane other than Edmonton and Washington:
“Florida was in it, Tampa was in it and then they pulled out, Calgary was around it but I don’t know how serious, Carolina too was a team that was in it for awhile.”
In his in-depth interview with Grey, Kane did admit that Oilers captain Connor McDavid reached out to him in the process of speaking with teams about a new contract.
McDavid was not however the only player who got in touch with Kane.
“There were plenty of guys that reached out, that I had great conversations with. It was nice to hear. It means a lot when you have star players, Hall of Fame players, guys that are breaking records reaching out to you and then them wanting you to be part of their group and their team, and to give them an opportunity to have success.”
Kane did not however reveal any more names.
