“We got robbed” Patrick Roy slams NHL officiating on Saturday.

The head coach of the New York Islanders, and legendary NHL goaltender, was furious with NHL officials on Saturday.

The National Hockey League and it's officials have been getting a lot of flak in recent years over the seemingly inconsistent nature of their calls on the ice, especially when it comes to the subject of goaltender interference. It feels like no one can truly predict which way the league will rule on goalie interference situations when they happen and on Saturday night we got what may have been the most damning example of that yet.

Following the conclusion of a contest between the New York Islanders and Seattle Kraken, Islanders head coach Patrick Roy, widely regarded as one of the greatest goaltenders of all time, expressed his frustration at the inconsistent nature of officiating when it comes to goalie interference.

A reporter was in the middle of asking Roy a question that was meant to gauge his feelings on goalie interference calls in the NHL when he cut the reporter off mid question.

"That we got robbed? Yeah," said Roy in response to the half of a question the reporter managed to get out.

The reporter then pressed on with his original question which again allowed Roy to express his frustration at the entire situation.

"I guess tonight I don't," said Roy when asked if he felt he had a good understanding of goaltending interference. "Because there's enough and not enough. Somebody's gonna have to explain to me what's enough and not enough. You're in the crease or you're not in the crease by yourself."

The most damning part of Roy's comments on the officiating however came when he invoked his own past as an NHL goaltender to drive home the point of how absurd the NHL's rulings have become on these matters.

"You bump into the goalie or you don't bump into the goalie, it's the first time I've ever heard that," said a clearly frustrated Roy. "I guess I didn't play enough games."

Roy took issue with the fact that Kraken forward Brandon Tanev had made his way deep into the crease, entirely on his own, and then used his body to press against Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin just moments before a shot was fired that would lead to a goal. The reverse angle gives the best look at the play in question:
