Vegas goaltender Logan Thompson decks Frank Vatrano.

Thompson gets physical on Friday night.

It's not very often that you will see a goaltender get involved in the more physical aspects of hockey, and that's probably why it always tends to make headlines when goaltenders do decide to get involved.

On Friday night, Las Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Logan Thompson decided he had seen enough of the Anaheim Ducks crowding his crease and unfortunately for Ducks forward Frank Vatrano he was the man on the receiving end of the physicality.

Thompson had just made a save when, in what is a fairly typical tactic of forwards in the National Hockey League, a number of Ducks forwards quickly skated up to him in an effort to crowd his crease and make him uncomfortable. The second of those players was Vatrano, who got right up in Thompson's face and appeared to be trying to remain there despite the best efforts of the Golden Knights defensemen in front of the net. Seeing this, Thompson decided to take matters into his own hands and dropped Vatrano to the ice with a hard two-handed shove to the chest.

Thompson would deck Vatrano with the push and the skated away as if nothing had happened, casually tossing the puck out of his glove in the process.

It isn't exactly clear what might have provoked Thompson to the point that he felt compelled to get physical, but based on the video replay it looks as though he may have taken a few taps to the helmet from the Ducks as they crowded his net. Although the replay doesn't make it 100% clear whether or not the sticks actually made contact with any kind of force, the situation did result in Thompson being knocked back and almost falling backwards into his own crease. The Golden Knights goaltender however managed to retain his balance and quickly bounced back up to give Vatrano a piece of his mind.
