Two Leafs on trading block as regular season approaches.

A pair of Toronto Maple Leafs are rumored to potentially be on their way out ahead of the regular season.

The Toronto Maple Leafs don't have a great deal of time left to finalize their roster before they kick off the regular season next week, and that has resulted in some names making their way into the trade rumor mill.

The two players that have come up most frequently are forwards David Kampf and Calle Jarnkrok, which makes sense given that the Maple Leafs are pretty crowded up front. Trading one of these players to free up both room in the lineup and salary cap space would make sense, but the question is which of the two do the Maple Leafs view as the most expendable?

Kampf has been a key contributor to the Maple Leafs on the penalty kill in recent years but the Maple Leafs haven't exactly had an outstanding penalty kill during that stretch of time. Additionally he comes with a fairly hefty price tag when you consider the fact that he consistently plays on the team's fourth line, with Kampf entering the second year of a four year deal carrying an average annual value and salary cap hit of $2.4 million per season.

Jarnkrok carries a similar cap hit entering the third year of a four year deal with an average annual value and salary cap hit of $2.1 million per season, so dollars aren't likely to be the deciding factor here.

Jarnkrok however has struggled to stay healthy in the preseason and that means that newly appointed Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube has had less time to properly evaluate what he has in Jarnkrok, which could also make him the odd man out in this scenario.

Complicating matters here has been the preseason performance of National Hockey League veteran Max Pacioretty, who already has 5 points in the preseason with one more game still on the schedule later tonight against the Detroit Red Wings. If the Maple Leafs wish to sign Pacioretty, or veteran forward Steve Lorentz who is also on a professional tryout offer, then moving on from either Kampf or Jarnkrok begins to make even more sense.

Which of these two players would you move if you were the Maple Leafs GM? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
