Jesse Puljujarvi’s strategy to accept a deal in Finland while he awaits to get traded might be working in his favour.
While Oilers general manager Ken Holland refuses to accept a low offer to get rid of the young forward who demanded a trade earlier this offseason, it is believed that two teams are seriously considering acquiring Puljujarvi before the start of the 2019-20.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman revealed on Thursday that both the Carolina Hurricanes and Tampa Bay Lightning are interested in pulling the trigger on a trade that would bring Puljujarvi to their respective roster.
It has been made known around the league that the Oilers are seeking a NHL-ready player and a prospect in return for Puljujarvi, and team insider Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal believes Holland could be after Lightning’s Anthony Cirelli or defenseman Mikhail Sergachev. As for a prospect, the Oilers could be eyeing Taylor Raddysh, who was a teammate of captain Connor McDavid back in junior ranks.
While things looked grim when it came to a trade in Edmonton at the start of the month, it sure feels like they are looking up now.
We could have a move sooner rather than later in a situation that’s been talked about all summer long.
