Terrible news out of Edmonton and Ottawa on Wednesday.

This is tough time for the sports community especially in Canada after it was announced earlier this week that many reporters had been let go by The Athletic. On Wednesday, it was TSN’s turn to announce some sad news affecting many hockey journalists as Jesse Gregor confirmed that TSN 1260 has decided to shut down.
“Thanks again for listening to the show for the past 20 years,” Gregor posted on Twitter.
On Twitter, the account for TSN 1260 has already been removed. As fellow reporter out of Vancouver Rick Dhaliwal points out, this is the fourth all sports station to fold in Canada in the last three years.
On top of that, Shawn Simpson also announced that he was let go by Bell Media, he who had worked many seasons on TSN radio in Ottawa.
"Although shocked, I'm so thankful for the last 11 years. It was a dream job, working with great people. JR was kind enough to give me a chance when I returned to Ottawa, and I will be forever thankful."
It was later confirmed that Bell Media is cutting 1,300 positions, around three per cent of its workforce, and closing or selling nine radio stations. The company claims it plans to “significantly adapt” how it delivers the news.
We wish Gregor and Simpson, and everyone at TSN all the best moving forward and hope to hear them again soon on other outlets.
