While it may seem impossible for the New York Rangers to acquire Chicago Blackhawks star forward Patrick Kane after landing Vladimir Tarasenko in a trade with the St. Louis Blues, however, it appears that there is still a way.
That will make Kane smile especially since he remains upset and shocked that the Rangers choose to acquire Tarasenko instead of him.
According to insider Chris Johnston, the Rangers pulled the trigger on Tarasenko, having concerns about Kane’s health and fearing the risk of waiting for him to make a decision, only to see the market pass them by.
Johnston pulled out the suggested from PuckMedia, explaining how the Rangers could still acquiring Kane, to his delight, if they were to send two down today (ex. Hajek/Gauthier) & had 21 players, with no other moves they could fit $2.8M in annual cap hit at deadline. However, the Blackhawks would need to agree to absorb 75% of Kane’s salary, leaving the Blue Shirts with a $2.625M Cap Hit to pay up.
There is a sense that the Blackhawks will need to retain part of Kane’s salary if or when the star forward informs the team he wants out and a shot at another championship. However, rumours hint at Kane only wanting to be move to the Rangers or the Toronto Maple Leafs, and maybe the return won’t be interesting enough for Chicago to comply.
While Kane could always expand his list of preferred destinations as the March 3rd trade deadline nears, he remains in control with his contract clause and can basically call the deal he wants.
But the truth is, Kane might have to consider other contenders.
