The real secret behind the Winnipeg Jets' historic success.

The Winnipeg Jets are making NHL history with their incredible start to the season, but is someone else responsible for making it happen?

The Winnipeg Jets are having the kind of start to a National Hockey League season that has simply never been seen before, literally, and they cemented that fact on Saturday night when they defeated the Dallas Stars and established two new records in the process.

But what if I told you all of their recent success wasn't of their own making?

The Jets are having a historic start yes, but if they go on to win the Stanley Cup in the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs there are likely going to be a lot of fans in Winnipeg that will thank the Florida Panthers for making their long awaited dreams come true. That's because one member of that team may have invoked the hockey gods in favor of the Winnipeg Jets this past summer when the Panthers won the Stanley Cup for the very first time.

That man? Former Winnipeg Jets head coach Paul Maurice.

Maurice had worked hard in the NHL as a head coach for the better part of three decades, many of those years being spent behind the bench in Winnipeg, but despite all of his hard work the hockey gods had never chosen to grace him with their favor and hockey's ultimate prize had always eluded him. That was of course until last year when the Florida Panthers defeated the Edmonton Oilers in 7 games, finally earning Maurice the prize he had coveted for so many years.

In a truly incredible display of both his character and his love for the city of Winnipeg however, Maurice wished for just one more thing just moments after Game 7 had ended and he was finally crowned champion.

"So if I could have one thing more, it would be for the Winnipeg Jets to win the next Stanley Cup," said Maurice just minutes after one of the biggest moments in his life.

Maurice didn't ask for them to win one in his lifetime, but he very specifically asked for the Jets to win the "next" Stanley Cup. It is far too early in the season to tell whether or not his wish will be granted by the hockey gods, but what an incredible story this is shaping up to be if it even comes close to becoming a reality.
