The Detroit Red Wings and forward Patrick Kane both took considerable risks when they agreed to a one-year contract in late November. Kane had undergone hip resurfacing surgery during the offseason, raising doubts about his ability to replicate the magic that arguably made him the greatest American-born player in NHL history.

However, those doubts were quickly put to rest when Kane stepped onto the ice with his new team. By the end of the season, his hip gave him no trouble, and he turned back the clock by scoring at nearly a point-per-game pace. Now that the offseason has officially arrived for the Red Wings, all eyes are on Kane and whether he will choose to extend his relationship with the team.

Although he hasn't explicitly committed to returning to Detroit next season, he hasn't ruled it out either. His teammate and close friend Alex DeBrincat has openly expressed his hope that Kane will re-sign with the Red Wings. Additionally, general manager Steve Yzerman has indicated his interest in offering Kane a new deal.

Kane's agent Pat Brisson will be meeting with Yzerman this week, and according to the latest odds released by BetMichigan, the Red Wings have the best chance of retaining Kane among potential suitors at +115 odds (46.5% chance).

Additionally, the Boston Bruins are at +800 odds (11.1% chance), while Dallas Stars (9.1% chance), Florida Panthers (8.7% chance), New York Rangers (6.5% chance), and his hometown Buffalo Sabres (6.5% chance) round out the remaining possibilities.

With 20 goals and 27 assists in the 50 games he played in, Kane produced at nearly a point-per-game pace, and was a major factor in Detroit's offensive attack. And right now, it looks like the Red Wings have the best odds for securing Kane's services next season.

But will Yzerman be willing to give Kane the term that he's reportedly seeking in a new contract?
