Yesterday evening an request for prayers and well wishes was posted on the official Hanson Brothers Twitter account after infamous Hanson Brother Steve Carlson was involved in a serious accident.

Steve's wife Vicki Carlson offered an update saying that Steve is awake and alert, but still has a long recovery ahead of him.

Steve, of course, is one of the original Hanson Brothers characters from the 1977 cult classic hockey film 'Slap Shot'. Technically, not a Hanson himself he was cast as the third Hanson Brother.

Carlson, 67, played a prominent role in Johnstown’s winning the professional North American Hockey League championship in 1974-75. That team inspired Nancy Dowd’s script for the Paul Newman movie “Slap Shot,” filmed in Johnstown in 1976 and released a year later. Carlson played one of the bespectacled Hanson Brothers in the movie and reprised the role with his brother Jeff Carlson and former Jets teammate Dave Hanson for decades.

Carlson also played in the World Hockey Association, a rival to the National Hockey League, and he advanced to the NHL with the Los Angeles Kings, scoring nine goals and 21 points in 52 games during the 1979-80 regular season.

In the decades that have past since the flick, Carlson has established himself as the group's official spokesperson both online and in real life. He has capitalized on the fame that the movie has brought him and has even turned his character into a cottage style industry of merch and public appearances.

Oh... did I mention he's an absolute legend?

In 2021 he was diagnosed with stage four cancer and has endured the fight of his life. The guy is a fighter... pure and simple. He's fought countless opponents, he's fought cancer and he'll fight this latest setback. Not to diminish the severity of his accident, this is just another brief setback for a guy who has dealt with setbacks his entire life. We're pulling for ya Steve, rest up, foil up and get back to good health, my man.
