Buffalo Sabres’ Tage Thompson wrote himself into the history books on Wednesday as many times as he put the puck into the Columbus Blue Jackets’ net.
During the first period of the contest between the Sabres and the Jackets in Columbus, the 25-year-old score four goals and an assists in 16 minutes and 40 minutes.
This is a record that caught the attentions of insiders, pundits and fans, and was celebrated in different ways as Thompson not only became the the first Sabres player with four goals in a period in franchise history, but he was also mentioned as first the Sabres player with a 1st period Hat Trick since Dave Andreychuk on Mar 27, 1990.
The NHL is also getting Thompson to put his name in high places as Sportsnet revealed that the Sabres’ forward has now the second fastest four goals to begin a game in NHL history, just behind Joe Malone of the Hamilton Tigers back in 1921!
This is just unbelievable. While the Blue Jackets might look to Suck hard for Bedard, Thompson doesn't need anyone to look as good as he does this season. That's four goals and an assist in 5:14 of ice time in the first period.
Bravo!
In the second period, he scored a fifth goal in this contest.
