The news that had been reported over the weekend has now become official - veteran forward Corey Perry has inked a contract with the Edmonton Oilers shortly after being told by Commissioner Gary Bettman that he was eligible to return.
Perry joins an Oilers team that is on an absolute tear, having won 13 straight games to not only set a franchise record but to set a new NHL Canadian franchise record for most wins by a team north of the border.
And the details of his contract are interesting, to say the least. According to Cap Friendly:
- Perry is set to receive $225,000 for participating in 10 games.
- Perry stands to earn an extra $50,000 if the Edmonton team secures victory in the second round of the playoffs and if he plays in 50% of the second round or 50% of rounds 1 and 2.
- Perry has the opportunity to earn an additional $50,000 if the Oilers emerge victorious in the third round of the playoffs. Similarly, he would qualify for the bonus if he plays in 50% of the third round or 50% of the combined games in the first three rounds.
