Stars make a bold move with GM Jim Nill

Not sure this is the right move. Thoughts, Stars fans?

The Dallas Stars have announced that they've signed GM Jim Nill to a one year contract extension.

The 64 year old Nill is entering his 10th season with the Stars organization and will now be under contract until the 2024 offseason. While Nill has made some shrewd transactions as Stars GM, I think he has faltered a bit in recent seasons. Obviously the highlight of his career thus far has been the blockbuster trade that saw him acquire Tyler Seguin from the Boston Bruins. Since then though, the Stars have mostly suffered under Nill as a result of the large contract that he has handed out. Sure, they made an improbable run to the Stanley Cup Final in 2020, but they have really lacked any sustained success over the past decade. These aren't your Father's Stars lead by the likes of Mike Modano and Ed Belfour, after all.

The Stars have made the playoffs in just five of Nill's 10 seasons as GM and, to me, don't look like a Stanley Cup threat anytime soon. Of course, anything can happen when you have a goalie like Jake Oettinger though.
