Stars forward Mason Marchment will pay special tribute to his father Bryan Marchment this season

This is so thoughtful. Much respect to Mason and thoughts to the entire Marchment family.

The hockey world was absolutely stunned when former NHLer Bryan Marchment passed away suddenly just a day prior to the 2022 NHL Draft. Marchment was a long time member of the San Jose Sharks' scouting staff and was looking forward to helping usher in the next crop of Sharks prospects along with the rest of his staff and newly minted Sharks GM Mike Grier.

The league held a moment of silence in Marchment's honor at the Draft and the Sharks have named their prospect tournament trophy in his honor.

For those who don't know, Marchment was a feared defender in his playing days. He always straddled the line of clean/dirty play and I won't lie to you and say that he always stayed on the right side of that line. The truth is that Marchment was feared for a reason... because he would go out of his way to hurt his opponents. That's just the way the game was played back then and Marchment played his role perfectly.

He also had no problem dropping the mitts:

Marchment's son Mason Marchment though... well, he's a different kind of player.

The 27 year old forward who recently signed a four year deal with the Dallas Stars is certainly a more skilled player than his father, as evidenced by his 18 goals and 47 points in 54 games with the Florida Panthers last season. I don't recall seeing Bryan ever scoring goals like this during his NHL career:

That's a straight up snipe. But don't let that fool you, the younger Marchment can also lay the BOOM just like his old man:

You just know that Dad was proud when he saw that smash. Carrying on the Marchment tradition in the NHL.

In that same vein, Mason announced earlier today that he'll be carrying on his father's legacy in the NHL this upcoming season by wearing his Dad's old #27.

Check it out:

How cool is that? Once again, I know Dad is proud.
