Simon Edvinsson destroys Boucher, humiliates Reinhardt.
The towering defenseman for the Detroit Red Wings flexes his size and muscle on Friday night.
The Detroit Red Wings and their fan base can probably expect a lot more of this in the future, and if that is indeed the case they may very well have a bright future ahead of them on the blue line.
On Friday night, Red Wings rookie defenseman Simon Edvinsson put the Ottawa Senators, and perhaps the entire National Hockey League, on notice when he flexed both his size and his power to embarrass a pair of fellow rookies.
Edvinsson didn't do anything dirty and instead delivered a punishing hit to former Ottawa Senators first round pick Tyler Boucher as he tried to skate out of his own zone and over the blue line. Boucher's efforts ended at a veritable brick wall with the number 77 written on it when Edvinsson stopped him dead in his tracks with a thunderous body check that brought the crowd to their feet.
Although the hit appeared to be a good one, Senators rookie forward Cole Reinhardt would quickly come to the defense of his teammate, or at least would make a valiant attempt at doing so. Reinhardt went directly after Edvinsson following the hit, throwing his gloves to the ice in a fury and began trying to swing at Edvinsson's head.
In a rather embarrassing moment for Reinhardt however, Edvinsson would refuse to engage by simply holding out his arm and grabbing Reinhardt by the jersey. The end result was Edvinsson holding Reinhardt back with one arm, preventing Reinhardt from doing any damage, before manhandling him like a small child and wrestling him down to the ice with just one arm.
It was an incredible visualization of the superior size and strength of Edvinsson when compared to his opponents on the ice, even more impressive when you consider the fact that Edvinsson is just 21 years old and has only played a total of 25 NHL games split over the last two seasons.
The Detroit Red Wings rookie defenseman has arrived, and he let the league know that on Friday night in rather spectacular fashion.
