Significant trade in place in Edmonton!

TRADE WATCH is on, Oilers’ fans.

Chris Gosselin

The Edmonton Oilers have a new general manager in charge and Stan Bowman is now headlining the rumour mill with chatter of a significant trade in the works.

According to Daily Face off’s Frank Seravalli, the Oilers are not only looking at free agent Tyson Barrie as an option to return to the roster, or even Justin Schultz and Kevin Shattenkirk, but are also working on a trade that could stun many pundits and fans ahead of training camp.

Seravalli believes the Oilers are closing in on a deal with another right-handed defenseman. Changes have already been made in Edmonton as not only did the club trade away defenseman Cody Ceci and a third-round pick to the San Jose Sharks for Ty Emberson, but it also lost out on Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway via offer sheets with the St. Louis Blues.

Despite Emberson being a right-handed defenseman, there is a sense that GM Bowman is seeking a more experienced blue liner, hence why Seravalli claims Edmonton has a trade in place for another. On OilersNow with host Bob Stauffer, Seravalli explained how Edmonton is looking for this position beyond a PTO deal, with the possibility of finalization before training camp.

Unfortunately, for now, the player remains a mystery.

“There’s other things Edmonton is looking at, I think including a potential trade that could shake things up a little bit more than just the PTO route.

“All I know is they have different options on the table.”

A recent speculation has linked Nashville Predators’ Dante Fabbro and Philip Tomasino to the Oilers, though it sounds like Seravalli’s rumour sounds more significant.

The clock is ticking ahead of training camp and if Seravalli is right about this, the Oilers could count on a new face in the defensive line ahead of the upcoming season.
