A scary situation in the National Hockey League on Saturday night may have just gotten a little scarier.

The first period between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Columbus Blue Jackets was called to an early halt this evening when veteran Blue Jackets forward Sean Kuraly was injured in the final seconds of the that period.

Kuraly was on the receiving end of a hit followed by a puck to the stomach, and a panicked reaction from members of the Blue Jackets bench resulted in concern over Kuraly's well being as well as paramedics and EMTs being called to the scene.

While initial updates made it sound like Kuraly had avoided everyone's worst fears, the latest update from the Columbus Blue Jackets once again raises some concerns. Kuraly had previously been under observation at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, but according to the Blue Jackets he will now be transported to Grant Medical Center for further evaluation

The Blue Jackets have confirmed that Kuraly has suffered an abdominal injury, an indication that it was the puck that caused the injury, but are saying it is not serious despite Kuraly being transported to hospital.

Stay tuned for more updates.
