Things just aren’t going great for Rangers forward Filip Chytil, who had to be helped off the ice during the optional skate on Friday morning.

Chytil, who has been sidelined with what is believed to be a concussion, had just returned to the Rangers and was participating in his second skate since sustaining the injury. He was reportedly in pain for five to seven minutes on the ice before he left, needing help to make his way out, per John Lazarus.

He has been out of the lineup since Nov. 2. Late in the second period, Chytil left the contest with the delayed effects of an early first-period collision that night with Jesper Fast, that probably probably resulted in the fourth concussion of his career. He appeared in only 10 games this season, recording six assists.

He even returned home to Czechia to ‘reset’ for his next phase of recovery in late December and appeared on the right path to make a return to action soon. He flew back to New York on Monday and had been cleared for non-contact practices and skates. This is what makes this scary, thinking that this could be a non-contact injury at a crucial point in his recovery…

Chytil is only 24 years old, but has been sidelined 10 different times in-season since 2018-19. And let’s not forget he was missing from training camp for two weeks with an unidentified upper-body injury.

When asked about Chytil’s status after the team’s practice, Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette stated that he was still being evaluated.

On his first day of practice on Thursday, Chytil took part in some drills while rotating in on the third line between Will Cuylle and Kaapo Kakko. He however kept a relatively safe distance whenever the intensity got ramped up.

I guess we will find out more on what's happening with Chytil once he gets evaluated and the Rangers come out with an official update and statement on his health. No official update has been provided.

Let's hope for the best for the poor guy, who needs a break at this point!
