Earlier this year the Vancouver Canucks announced officially that they’ll be introducing a new third jersey for their upcoming 50th anniversary in 2019-20. Along with the third jersey is a 50th anniversary commemorative logo, seen below:
Now, the Canucks expansion cousin Buffalo Sabres have joined them in releasing their own 50th anniversary logo. Check it out:
"We did a lot of research," Sabres executive vice president of creative services Frank Cravotta said. "Simplicity for Kim [Pegula] and Terry [Pegula] is key. You see some of these [logos other teams have created] that have very complex designs. They wanted it kind of stripped down, clean, and simple."
Anniversary patches are, of course, nothing new to the Sabres franchise. Check out the subtle, but sharp patched designed for the team’s 20th and 25th anniversaries:
As for the Canucks, the team has not indicated whether or not their new logo will be incorporated into their uniform for the 2019-20 season, but Canucks fan S7 Design has mocked up a version of the Canucks jersey with a 50th anniversary logo patch on the shoulder, check it out:
