Ryan Whitney teases scoop on Sidney Crosby’s future amid contract extension buzz!

What do you make of his bold statement?

Earlier this week, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby hinted at a contract extension coming soon. Now that fans and pundits simply await the official announcement, Spittin Chiclets Podcast co-host and former NHL player Ryan Whitney claims to know something about the future of the league’s superstar.

Now on an expiring deal, Crosby could be extended soon, though questions have arisen on what the next contract could look like and if the captain wants to remain on a rebuilding roster for the remainder of his career.

On top of that, Crosby is now 37 years old, and given Pittsburgh’s salary cap constraints in the next few years, it remains to be seen what his next deal could look like.

Despite all that, Whitney teases a scoop on his former teammate and his future in Pittsburgh, claiming that Sid will never play for another team and compete for the Stanley Cup other than with Pittsburgh.

“Now if December and January come along and like, they’re struggling, they’re out of the playoffs, I’ve been told by numerous people that he will never sign anywhere else, and he’ll never go anywhere else. I would beg him, please, please go somewhere else, let us watch you compete for a Stanley Cup. Let us see you in the playoffs, sending yourself off in this Hall of Fame, Mount Rushmore type career in the National Hockey League.

“But it sounds like no matter what, that will not be happening. You gotta give credit to him as a loyal guy, and wanting to be with one team his entire career and looking to get that fourth Stanley Cup. There’s just not enough there.”

The Penguins have missed the playoffs for two straight years amidst a semi-rebuild. They are trying to get younger but keep their older core players together as well.

However, I have to agree with Whitney (and as a huge Penguins’ fan since 1992 myself), I doubt Crosby isn’t going anywhere. I can’t see Crosby or the Penguins ever walking away from each other. The Penguins have committed to taking a run at the Stanley Cup Playoffs so long as Crosby is in the fold. Ditto for the likes of Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang.

What do you feel about this? Will Crosby wear another NHL uniform… ever??
