Ryan Hartman turns flipping off Evander Kane into generous gift for sick children

This is certainly a great story.

Michael W.

If you're a hockey fan, then by now you've almost certainly seen the footage of Minnesota Wild forward Ryan Hartman flipping the bird to controversial Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane.

Of course, Hartman was immediately fined for the obscene gesture by the National Hockey League, and donations came pouring in - even from Kane's former wife, who has her own level of craziness going on.

Hartman was touched by the amount of donations that came in, more than enough to pay for his $4,250 fine several times over. He took to Twitter to announced that the donations would be immediately sent not to the NHL, but rather to the Urgent Needs Fund at Children's Minnesota which goes towards covering costs for families who need assistance in paying medical bills as well as helping fund birthday parties for the hospitalized children.

"Wow….overwhelmed by the amount of donations I have received to help pay for my fine," Hartman wrote on social media. "You fans are amazing. I will be paying for it with my own money, but wanted to let everyone know that any money sent to me by 7 pm on Friday will be donated to Children’s Minnesota."

The total amount of money that came in by Friday night amounted to $30,500.

"Every single child that comes through our walls and halls, regardless of their ability to pay, we take good care of them," said Children’s Minnesota Vice President of Philanthropy Joslyn Biever.

"Those are things you can’t put on a bill and those are the types of things that are really impactful for their childhood and those are the types of things that philanthropy powers," Biever continued. "When somebody like Ryan and our great wild players stand beside them and say, ‘We are here to support you’…that is something that really means a lot to the kids as they are going through these health journeys."

You can't say that Hartman isn't a class act after this.
