Rutger McGroarty causes trade from Winnipeg to fall apart.
The Winnipeg Jets are trying to trade Rutger McGroarty but he may be making it impossible.
The Winnipeg Jets have a major headache on their hands in the form of National Hockey League prospect Rutger McGroarty, and unfortunately for the Jets it sounds like the situation has gone from bad to worse.
Most expect that McGroarty, selected by the Jets in the 1st round (14th overall) of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, will be traded prior to the start of the 2024-25 NHL regular season, but thus far no deal has materialized for McGroarty. To make matters worse, Jets reporter Mike McIntyre recently revealed his belief that it may be McGroarty's own camp that is making a deal out of Winnipeg extremely difficult to pull off.
"I've heard just behind the scenes here.... I've heard that even the trade talks that have happened, those have led to extreme frustration," admitted McIntyre.
And what might be the source of that frustration? According to McIntyre it sounds as though teams looking to acquire McGroarty from the Jets have been put off by the demands being made by the 20 year old and his camp, a 20 year old that has yet to appear in even a single NHL game.
"There are other teams that might be interested in Rutger McGroarty that are hearing a lot of the same things from the McGroarty camp that the Jets have heard," revealed McIntyre. "In terms of playing time and assurances."
The most telling moment of McIntyre's comments on the McGroarty topic however were in regards to a potential trade that appears to have fallen apart for this very reason.
"I heard over this past weekend that there may have been one particular deal that was pretty close to happening that essentially fell apart because the other team didn't like what they were hearing from the McGroarty camp," said McIntyre.
Of course if word of this spreads through the NHL it will dramatically hurt the Jets' chances of winning any kind of trade involving McGroarty.
"That may be complicating this for the Jets," admitted McIntyre.
A bad situation for the Jets and it may be getting worse by the day.
