The former head coach of the Vancouver Canucks reportedly had several options and has opted not to return to Canada.

A pair of Canadian teams have reportedly failed to lure former Vancouver Canucks head coach Travis Green to their respective organizations.

Although there has been no official announcement, on Monday morning National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman reported that veteran NHL coach Travis Green was set to join the ranks of the New Jersey Devils. As per Friedman, Green is being hired on to replace former Devils assistant coach Andrew Brunette after Brunette was hired to be the next head coach of the Nashville Predators.

Interestingly enough it appears that Green had a number of options available to him but opted to choose the Devils as his next destination. Friedman reports that both the Calgary Flames and the Toronto Maple Leafs were believed to be among the teams interested in bringing in Green, but they were obviously unsuccessful in their bids to do so.

Green will bring a wealth of experience to New Jersey with him, as not only a coach but also as a player. As a veteran of 970 NHL games, Green is able to relate to the players on a level that some head coaches simply cannot replicate and he also has 5 seasons of experience as an NHL head coach under his belt on top of it.

No word yet on the length or financial details of Green's new deal.
