Rumor: Canucks to trade JT Miller to the New York Rangers!

Biz from the top ropes!

Trevor Connors

UPDATE 2: Paul Bissonnette of TNT and the Spittin' Chiclets podcast is now reporting that New York Rangers GM Chris Drury is in hot pursuit of Vancouver Canucks forward JT Miller and "would do baaaad things" to get him.

So... big deal, right? Just another rumor?

The thing is that Bissonnette doesn't throw stuff like this around willy-nilly. He clearly has an inside with a number of NHL players who are feeding him information. He has correctly predicted a number of blockbuster moves around the NHL the past couple years and has a much better track record than the likes of Elliotte Friedman, Darren Dreger and other NHL insiders.

So, assuming there's fire amongst all this smoke, what's a fair deal for Miller?

Will the Rangers finally move on from Alexis Lafreniere? How about K'Andre Miller? Certainly they'd like to move Mika Zibanejad, right?

Stay tuned, things could get interesting.

Read below for our earlier reports on Miller and the Canucks, published this morning.

UPDATE: Sportsnet NHL insider Nick Kypreos is now reporting that the Vancouver Canucks are now ready to put an end to the ongoing feud between star forwards Elias Pettersson and JT Miller and are expected to take trade offers on Miller.

From Kypreos on "The Real Kyper and Bourne Show" today:

"It’s sounding like the Vancouver Canucks are leaning toward a major roster change as it becomes clearer to management that the current roster — specifically feuding stars J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson — cannot co-exist. Don’t be surprised if we start hearing the Canucks are willing to take calls on Miller."

- Nick Kypreos

It's worth noting that Canucks GM Patrik Allvin said earlier this week that he's "it's a possibility" that the Canucks actually trade Pettersson, rather than Miller.

However they get to team harmony, it's clear that the Canucks want to put this story to bed and they're willing to make major changes to get back on track.

For our earlier report on this developing story, read below.

It's been a season long Soap Opera in Vancouver for the Vancouver Canucks and the team's fanbase.

Star forward JT Miller's leave of absence combined with rumors that he and teammate Elias Pettersson are feuding have sparked controversy on the West Coast. But so far, no reporters have managed to dig up any details of the beef between the two teammates... Hell, we still don't even really know why Miller left the team temporarily.

Now, thanks to some insight from former teammate Brad Richardson, we're finally getting some insight into what's going on.

On the most recent episode of the Missin' Curfew podcast with former NHLers Shane O'Brien and Scottie Upshall, Richardson reveals that Miller is and was too hard on Pettersson and that he personally warned Miller about alienating the kid.

Check it out:

- Brad Richardson

First thing's first... the Canucks should have never let Richardson walk as a free agent back in 2015. Another failure of Jim Benning's...

Secondly, I'm inclined to believe Richardson 100%.

We know that Miller is a feisty individual who won't back down. We also know that Pettersson is more reserved and doesn't really suffer fools easily. The two players have nearly polar opposite personalities. That much we know.

Now we have confirmation that their difference in personality was creating an issue as far back as 2022 when Richardson was both of their teammates. It stands to reason then that things have escalated in the two years since and now we find ourselves in an untenable situation.

So... what's the next move?

Trade? Couple's therapy?
