Report: Salary cap changes/exemptions coming when the NHL returns
Now every team can be like the Lightning!

According to multiple NHL insiders, there's a very good chance that the NHL will implement new roster rules and allow teams to either go over the salary cap or circumvent the salary cap temporarily.
From the New York Post's Larry Brooks:
With decision having been made on Olympics, we are told that NHL/NHLPA are embarking on discussions relating to COVID-related roster issues including possible taxi squads, cap exemptions, et al when schedule resumes on Monday.
Also told that plan is for each team to have a "bye period" for an undetermined number of days during the original Olympic break as part of the revised schedule.

"I think there's a decent chance we're going to see some changes to the roster rules when we get back".
- Elliotte Friedman
In other words: Everyone gets a shot to be the Tampa Bay Lightning this season!
In all seriousness, it's clear that the NHL absolutely HAS to change their rules for this season. Bring back the taxi squad, allow teams to carry extra goaltenders... do whatever you have to do to ensure that this season doesn't turn into an absolute farce.
